How to restore bike chains to like-new with CLR®.

Bryan, from Ohio, our first winner of the CLR 101 Uses Contest writes, “I use CLR on my bicycle chain once a year to remove any surface rust and keep the chain spot free.” Spring is here and it’s time to make sure your bikes are ready to hit the road! Bicycle chains are an integral part of how your bike functions. After months of storage, they can accumulate rust, dirt, and grim, which compromises its’ pliability making it harder or even unsafe to ride. Using CLR is a fast and economical way to get your chain (or anywhere else rust typically appears, like tire rims, frame, or breaks) back to looking like new.

In a well-ventilated area, mix equal amounts of CLR and warm water. Inspect your bicycle chain to assess the amount of rust and grime. If the chain is still flexible, apply directly with a brush, cloth, or sponge. After 2-3 minutes, rinse with cold water. If the chain feels stiff, remove and submerge it in the CLR/warm water solution again. Immediately rinse with cold water. Never mix CLR with other household cleaners or bleach.
